Spent time driving today for practice, and this is a photo I took in the parking lot of Target.
The Eldorado is mine, the Mark VIII is someone elses. Just think, back in the 90s, these two were fierce competitors for each other, the last of their model lines, the final reminders of a class of car that would disappear for good. Now, both are just cheap beaters that have been relegated to Craigslist ads and semi-expensive money hogs. Kind of sad really.
(BTW, the guy in the white is my dad. Just so you don't have to ask in the comments.)

When I was about 16 (late 90s) my dad somehow ended up buying a 1975 Eldorado for what he had in his wallet and a case of beer. It was supposed to end up mine but we never got it running reliably enough. Just funny to me comparing your cheap beater version with mine :)
Mine had an 8-track player, to start...

Yeah, I didn’t realize that mine would turn out to be a money pit also. I had to replace the suspension on it, and I hate to get the heater working, but it runs just fine.
Funny how you say that 75 had an 8-track, cause mine has a 12 disc CD changer in the trunk that can play CDs through the radio. Apparently a lot of high end cars came with it during the 90s, kind of cool, if something bad happens to the car, I might just tear the changer unit out and install it in my next car cause I really do like it a lot.
Still, a 70s Caddy for a case of beer and whatever cash you had on you? Must've been the deal of a century.

We had an 81 (mine) and an 83 (sister’s) deVille that cost less than $300 apiece too. Those never ran well but weren’t such money pits...mostly because nothing was worth fixing. Mine leaked transmission fluid like a beast until one day it just didn’t. Gas gauge didn’t work, speedo worked when it wanted, and it sometimes would shut off when you were driving (those ignition problems weren’t as recent as most people believe). But I ate lunch in it once while skipping school and watched a guy run into me trying to park - he destroyed the front end of his rental and barely scratched my paint.
My dad’s best bargaining goes to this 80s Accord he’s had for forever though. He paid I think $500 originally and has twice sold it at a profit and bought it back for less. I inherited none of those skills.

I always liked the ElDo’s styling, but disliked the FWD configuration. I always liked the Mark VIII’s engine and chassis, but disliked the styling.

So you’re saying that if you would have an Eldorado body with Mark VIII underpinnings and the 4.6 engine, that would be perfect?
I forgive the Eldorado's FWD, it handles fine enough, and it's been a staple of the model since 1967 so it's more forgivable than other cars that suddenly go FWD for no reason.

I thought that this was going to be about annoying asshats that waste time backing into spaces, doing it poorly and then essentially making the space next to them unusable unless you want to get smacked by their large, heavy coupe door.
